Kevin Best was born January 27, 1932 in Hamilton, Victoria. He was known for his realistic and detailed depictions of Australian landscapes and historical scenes, particularly those featuring the Australian bush and outback.
Kevin was a “self-taught” artist who originally worked in the stock broking industry for 28 years and after encouragement from friends and family, became a full-time artist in September 1977 at age of 43.
Kevin’s work is characterised by his mastery of light and his ability to capture the beauty and simplicity of rural life. He was a popular artist, with his works reproduced on various items like calendars and placemats.
Kevin was awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia in 2005 “for service to the arts as a landscape painter, and to the community through fundraising support for a range of charitable organisations”.
Kevin died on July 31, 2012 in Sydney, Australia.
